During our walk around the old city Jim was ahead of us and he came back where Marilyn and I were standing taking a picture and said “there’s four girls up there and I’m sure they are Newfies!” So off Marilyn and I go to check them out which actually meant to listen to them talk. They were gathered around and were not talking and for a few minutes never said a word to each other. Marilyn pulled me aside and said “they can’t be Newfies as not one of them said a word!” So I walk up to one and say “excuse me, where are you from?” And of course she said Newfoundland and we all started talking a mile a minute and found out they were celebrating one of the girls 50th birthday by taking a Mediterranean cruise and one of their stops was Dubrovnik. They were from the southern shore(for you Newfies out there) and when they heard we were from Placentia we found out they knew a girl I went to school with. Anyway we had a great chat and then they told us to keep our ‘ears’ open for a young fella from Newfoundland that they had just run into the same way, ie. he heard them talking………..never did meet him!. They now live in St. John’s and I’m wondering what the chance is that one of you folks on the ‘Rock’ recognizes one of them……..let us know if you do!
