Too hot to type………

imageimageimage…but not to have a cool one!   We heard there was another snow storm in NS so I quickly stopped complaining about the heat……..and can only say this to you, “my God is it hot” because everyone else reminds me of the weather we left behind.     We all got burned even though we’ve been careful with not staying out long and using sun screen but the sun just seems more intense. These pictures were taken around Santa Catalina and you can see from the pictures we pretty well have the beach to ourselves.  At Sol y Mar, howver, we did not have the place to ourselves as it was full of Canadians and unfortunately some were quite rude and an embarrassment to all of us.  There was a farming couple frm Saskatchewan who were lovely and they came here as the husband dives and it is a well known diving area.  In addition to them there were  eight to ten ” thirty somethings”, male and females, from Ontario who had been there for six days diving as well and I strongly suspect they were born with silver spoons in their mouths.   Too bad the silver spoons didn’t  get stuck there because they were the most foul mouthed drunk younger people I think I have ever encountered.  They absolutely had no respect for anyone and while the owner was away for the day they pretty well cleaned out his beer  fridge, apparently 90!  They weren’t dangerous in any way, just drunk and rude and hanging out around the pool which made it unpleasant for the rest of us.   You could tell it was no sense talking to them in their drunken state as every now and then one or two of them would look our way as if they were humorous.    Anyway we did our best to ignore them and the next morning the owner gave them crap for drinking all his beer without him there and of course they had no problem with paying and one or two of them looked a little sheepish.   I was glad to see the back of them and the new people who checked in were a whole lot quieter, thank the Lord!  Before we left SC Luis told us that  last year Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones were here as well as Bono, just having a beer in one of the few little bars.    As a result of this publicity, the great surfing and diving, and the close proximity of Parque Nacional Isla Coiba, which we did not get to, the property in and around this little fishing village has already been bought up and is for sale by one big developer.  Guess we’ll pass on owning a piece of the earth here!  The fishing must be fabulous as everyday there were four choices of fish on the menu and because the menu did not change we tried them all.   Excellent taste and presentation by the German chef and of course the bartender was from France so he and Yves had several chats.    A gem of a place it was!

So glad that you missed the last snow storm! Looks like you are having fun, if a little toasty.
Can’t wait to see you in May for the wedding.

Re the rude Canadians, the only time we’ve been really embarrassed by our fellow Canucks was on a European tour with the boys after Ian’s graduation. There were about thirty people from various parts of the world but the only assholes were two separate groups from Toronto. Unfortunately we were all lumped in as Canadian but we four did our best to be gracious and friendly and fun while the other seven, aged from fourteen to about seventy, acted like self-absorbed twits.

Enjoy that gorgeous weather and hopefully by the time you get home it really will be spring.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, you guys!
